The registration fee includes facility use fees, coaching, a short sleeved t-shirt, entry into the Tuesday night All-Comers meets in June at Marvin Ridge, and entry into one Myers Park Summer Series All-Comers Meet that we will attend as a team.  Athletes will also have the opportunity to compete in the Powerade State Games and USATF Junior Olympic Outdoor Track Meet at an additional cost.

Our coaching staff is USATF Level 1 certified with experience coaching at the middle and high school levels.  The philosophy of our staff is to teach proper technique, provide event-specific instruction, and promote overall fitness using fundamentally sound, age-appropriate coaching techniques.  Perhaps of equal importance, we want to be sure the athletes are having fun and are learning a life-long love of running and track events.

The Waxhaw Track Club is once again offering a Junior Olympic Cross Country training program aimed at youth who love to run – maybe running is their sole passion, or maybe they enjoy another sport but are ready to try something new.  Perhaps they’ve done Girls on the Run or Let Me Run and have caught the “running bug” and can’t wait to do more.  However it has come about, if you love to run, can run at least 2 miles without stopping, and are looking forward to the cooler temperatures and faster race times that come with the fall weather, then this training program is for you.

The Junior Olympic series of races are sponsored by USATF and begin with 2 meets in Greensboro.  With qualifying places, runners will advance from the State meet to compete at the Junior Olympic National Championship.  All runners will also have the choice of running in the Foot Locker South Regional Meet or the Nike NXN Southeast Community 5K.

The Nike and Footlocker races are both held on November 30th so runners will need to choose one or the other.  Since we realize that some runners will only want to take part in the JO series of races, we have not included the Foot Locker or Nike races in our registration fee.  You will need to register and pay for these separately.  The coaches will be traveling to Cary for the Nike race.  We will be joining the high school aged Waxhaw Track Club runners for a pasta dinner in Cary the night before the race.

Junior Olympic races are run in 2-year age groups:

Age Division               Year of Birth                         Race Distance

9 - 10 (Bantam)          2003 – 2004                         3K (1.86 miles)
